Submit your Shopify XML Sitemap to Google & Bing for Indexing

YOUR XML SITEMAP

Although Shopify automatically generates XML sitemaps for your store/site (which is very helpful, as the XML is updated as you add to your site over time), you do still need to submit the sitemap to Google and Bing to get the most value out of it.

TO DO THIS WITH GOOGLE

1. Go to the Google Search Console. If you haven't already, verify with Google that you are the owner of your domain.

2. Find and click on "Sitemaps" in the left-hand navigation of the dashboard.

3. In the "Add A New Sitemap" field, enter your Shopify XML sitemap URL. Your sitemap will be at the root directory of your Shopify store domain. Just add "/sitemap.xml" to your URL. (For example, if your URL is helenscandles dot com, you would add helenscandles.com/sitemap.xml to the Search Console).

4. In a few moments (assuming your site doesn't have thousands of pages), you should see "Success" in green under the status column, which means Google has successfully indexed your site.

Now to do it for Bing...

TO DO THIS WITH BING

1. Go to the Bing Webmasters Site, and sign in.

2. Bing will give you the option of importing your sites from Google Search Console (GSC). So if you've set them up there, do that. The process takes a minute or two.

3. Once completed, you'll still want to add your XML sitemap to Bing so it can be indexed there as well.  You'll see "Sitemaps" as a link on the left navigation. Click it, and add the same Shopify XML Sitemap URL to the field. Bing will then index your site, just as Google did.
